The ScienceDaily.com website (one of our favorite venues) has an entry about climate variability accounting for the colder than normal weather that the authors say has led some of us to doubt that global warming is real. They say, in effect, that even with a trend-line going up, one can expect variability around the trend-line.
We consider this last proposition reasonable. We agree, from the lay perspective we have, that climate appears as a highly variable set of processes and phenomena. So if global warming was real, we think it would be reasonable to see variability.
But the problem for climatologists, as distinct from environmentalists, is that climatology has been hijacked by the environmentalism movement, which is a quasi-religious, overtly-political, nothing-to-do-with science set of memes that undermine huge numbers of laypeople’s ability to ascertain real scientific endeavor from the political memes that attempt to mimic it. We at O-t-c have a great fondness and respect for scientific endeavor and for scientists generally – when the science is done per the scientific method. When it is politicized, we consider those involved to be on the order of Bernie Madoff – cheaters in the extreme, who deserve nothing but ridicule and imprisonment for trying to steal billions of dollars for their pet projects.

We call on CLIMATOLOGISTS to start doing whatever they can to shut down the environmentalists in their midst and tell them to stand down, to stop making the science unintelligible. It is up to the CLIMATOLOGISTS and the METEOROLOGISTS to lay out methods of research (which would not be skewed toward showing that global warming was real, but would be aimed at finding out what is going on with weather and climate using null hypotheses and other generally accepted rubrics in the scientific method). Hyperbole, data suppression, data alteration, suppression of dissent, calling people you disagree with names, are the acts of those in the area of politics – not in the arena of science.
The problem is exacerbated by the fact that the ENVIRONMENTALISTS want to have taxpayers transfer enormous amounts of wealth to the have-nots because of their political memes. This is unacceptable, and CLIMATOLOGISTS should be at the vanguard of shutting this effort down.
As long as climatologists (and ecologists gtenerally) do not distinguish themselves from and distance themselves from the environmentalism religo-political movement, laypeople around the world will be correctly suspicious.

We found ourselves amused as we began reading Michelle Obama’s thesis for her BA in sociology. Her narcicism was evident back then, though not nearly as robust as it appears today. The entire opening is almost exclusively about her own feelings, and using reality as a backdrop against which her feelings and perceptions are displayed. One passage we found, mmm, interesting was this: “At the same time, however, it is conceivable that my four years of exposure to a predominantly White, Ivy League University, has instilled within me certain conservative values. For example, as I enter my final year at Princeton, I find myself striving for many of the same goals as my White classmates — acceptance to a prestigious graduate or professional school or a high paying position in a successful corporation. Thus my goals after Princeton are not as clear as before.”
We ask:
- Advancing your educational career or moving into the fast lane with a high-paying position – this is a conservative value? So does that mean liberal values are to stop advancing your education, be as dumb as you can be, and strive for financial ruin America? We suspect that this may be closer to the truth than our derision might suggest. But really – isn’t success a pragamatist’s value – neither conservative nor liberal? Must everything be seen through a racial/politically charged lens?
- Why is the word “White” capitalized?
- It is conceivable that four years in a particular setting might have an affect on you? Say it isn’t so, and Shhh – don’t tell your husband. He thinks that he can sit in the pew at Jeremiah Wright’s church and listen to all the bombast spewed out of that hateful mounth, listen to all the parishoners chanting, “Uh huh, right on,” and other very articulate responses to the Reverand’s rants, without it affecting his views at all. So please, Mrs. Obama. Don’t spoil the President’s hallucination.
We will cut Mrs. Obama a tiny bit of slack here. She may have been just naive pup, as we were when we attended college.
However, she seems to not have stopped being naive; seems to believe that “jobs” exist without businesses that generate the jobs, and seems to be very willing for everything to be all about her (witness her so-called “sales pitch” to bring the Olympics home to Chicago because it would make her daddy happy.)
We will – as time and desire allow, read through this laborious tome of hers. We are so bored with all things having to do with “race” in this country, that we can only take so much of it.
Again – we call on all who have brains: throw away your hyphens. Subordinate your heritage to what’s in your heart, mind, and soul right now. What are your aspirations? What do you dream of for yourself and your family? What do you do that is helpful or at least not hurtful in the neighborhoods where you live? How can you improve who you are as a human being, as a student, or as a business success, etc.
None of these questions need be about your race, ethnicity, religion, or any other hyphen-maker – unless you do it yourself. Throw away the hyphens. Come up to the 21st Century and be welcomed as real citizens of America, instead of your self-imposed, second-rate, tin-plated copies of what it means to be an American.

Everyone seemingly has an idiot’s vocabulary. We don’t get it. Here at Off-the-cliff.com, we pride ourselves on using words appropriately.
The word tragedy is rightly used when someone dies from an earthquake, hurricane or train wreck. It’s a tragedy when someone goes off a creaky old bridge. It’s even a tragedy when someone has an heretofore unknown alergic reaction to a generally benign medication, and begins to stutter and belch uncontrollably.
These are tragedies.
Violent acts are not tragedies. When you are robbed at gunpoint, that’s not a tragedy. If you are shot dead, that’s not a tragedy either.
The correct word is atrocity.
We are so sick and tired of hearing about the “tragedy” at Fort Hood. It wasn’t tragic at all. It was atrocious. It was dispicable. It was worthy of the greatest amount of scorn that one can heap upon one individual.
What is also an atrocity, is the lamestream media (thank you Bernie Goldberg) is the Obama Administration playing the role of the Keystone Kops in this mess. Instead of calling on Muslims to condemn the act of the madman Hasan (in much the same way that Christians are called upon to disavow violence when a loon bombs an abortion clinic), our Administration worries about non-existent “backlashes” against “innocent Muslims.”
By whom, Mr. President? Who are you anticipating going on a violent tirade against “innocent Muslims.” We haven’t seen anyone doing any such thing.
All we see is you, once again, Mr. President, being the Coward-in-Chief. Afraid that any showing of American strength – rightly applied – will lose you “friends” in the international community. Are you so full of yourself, Mr. Obama, that you can’t be a decent Commander-in-Chief? Are you such an imbecile that you can’t make moral judgments along rational lines?
Apparently not. Apparently all you are good for, Mr. Obama is an object lesson of how not to do things when you have power.
We have waited and waited and waited for you to do one thing right, Mr. Obama. (Though we knew better than to hold our breath.) You continuaully let America down. Would you please let us buy you a one-way ticket to France or Holland and even put you up in a good apartment for 3 years where you can be on vacation for the rest of your term. As bad as Joe Biden would be as President, you are infinitely worse. Please, Mr. President. If you have even one patriotic bone in that tiny-brained body of yours – won’t you please go on vacation? You will do far less damage to our Republic if you just leave.
Oh – and take that witch, Pelosi with you, as both of you are atrocious blights on the public’s well-being.

The newspaper, AJC, reports that the local elections fell along racial lines. We add, “sort of.” From the article: “Mary Norwood swept predominately white precincts of the city Tuesday, and also found support in key black precincts, while former state senator Kasim Reed dominated his base in southwest Atlanta and had a strong showing in predominately black areas of northwest and west Atlanta.”
Now – how is it that Mary Norwood, who is of lighter complexion, can “find support in key black (i.e., darker complexion) precints” and have the “election fall along racial lines?”
We here at O-t-c find ourselves so bored and so disgusted with breaking things down on race – or any other stupid hyphen.
Either something is good for the nation or it’s not. Either something is good for Atlanta – as a whole – or it’s not. Why does it have to always – always – be about race.
We are reminded how people of lighter complexion were said to be closet racists for not supporting Obama when 90%+ of people of darker complexion voted for the Socialist putz, but they weren’t deemed racist at all. Oh no. That was something else. What that something might be called by the mainstream fringe media, we still don’t know. (We call it racist poppycock.)
Again – it’s such a yawner and such a disappointment.
When will people of all complexions throw away their stupid hyphens. If there’s anything that makes a person a slave in modern American society, it’s your hyphen. Throw it away and declare yourself to be a free citizen. A free American. Throw away your hyphen and vote for pragmatism, for things that work, for things that enrich our lives instead of make us dependent on government. Put government into the small box it’s supposed to be in. That is what it means to be free.
That is what it means to be free! End of story.
