One of us was asked by a friend why we’re bothering with this site. Don’t we have lives to lead?
So we think that this question deserves an answer, and rather than answer via private email to this friend, we figure that it would be good to explain ourselves here – for the benefit of our audience, as well.
Love of an Endangered Country
The fact is that we love America. As much as we have difficulty with what this Administration is doing, our love of country has not faltered even a hair’s width. We write because of our love of country. We do not presume that Mr. Obama doesn’t love America, though his vision is one we most certainly disagree with. Indeed, we believe that the Obama Administration is degrading this county in ways we cannot in our hearts accept. We believe, therefore, that it is our patriotic duty to do what we can, by way of commentary, and donations when we believe them appropriate to speak out in opposition when we believe it deserved. Unfortunately, that is most of the time it seems.
The Likelihood of Over-Reaching
We have already seen the seeds of this in the Obama administration. From his firing of Rick Wagoner at GM to the flyover New York, we believe in our heart of hearts that the Democrat leadership (and many in the rank and file) have an arrogance that will be their own undoing. All we have to do is point things out.
Of course, we do this for the fence-sitters. We’re not interested in preaching to our own chorus (conservatives). Nor are we interested in trying to tweak the ideologues on the Left (much as we might enjoy the sport). We are interested in being productive. To this end, we present our evidence and our arguments as objectively and dispassionately as we can. We admit our conservative bias. So the objectivity will have a slant. But we will always endeavor to present arguments and evidence in a way that does not take your decision for granted.
We are aimed at persuading the fence-sitters. That’s our mission. And we will do this only to the extent that you believe we are not trying to manipulate you into some false agreement.
In fact, we’d rather have your honest disagreement than a manipulated agreement.
So there you have it. This is why we write: the country is in danger and we believe that fence-sitters can be persuaded.

It is important to understand what we, at Off-the-cliff.com mean hypocrisy. Simply, we mean that people espouse certain principles and then behave as though the principles apply to everyone else, but not to themselves.
Hypocrisy is a human foible. It appears in everyone of us to one extent or another. It happens with Republicans, Independents and Democrats. It happens with men and women. It even happens with children old enough to dissemble. It is part of the human condition.
On a private level, hypocrisy is rarely a big deal for society at large. A person who preaches an immorality of pornography grabs a Playboy now and then. It hurts very few if any people. The individual has to live with the cognitive dissonance that this level of hypocrisy brings.
It is quite a different matter when Read more
