America

Failing

Day 235

We received an email from a friend living in San Francisco (home of Google) today. He alerted us to the fact that Google, which makes the lion’s share of its money from Americans, decided to not create a home-page doodle. You can find a number of these callings-out below.

Google has a tradition of commemorating everything, especially if it’s politically correct. So this isn’t strictly a button-down business decision. If it were, we’d have no comment. But it isn’t. This had to be a calculated statement by them that 911 doesn’t matter to them; that we should not be paying special attention to it.

Just to be sure, we did a search on Bing.com to see if there was anywhere that Google does commemorate 911, perhaps by way of donations to the Wounded Warrior Project or a the National Firefighters Fund. We haven’t been able to find it. (Google – feel free to correct us if we’re mistaken; we’ll display a prominent correction if you do.) What we did find was this from last year, meaning they have a tradition of this kind of thing.

So we’re establishing a new tradition at Off-the-cliff.com. We are voting with our wallets (as long as Obama’s policies don’t bankrupt us and we still have wallets). We will use Google, but they are now relegated to fourth-tier status, behind Bing, Yahoo and Wikipedia.

We now view Google as being in league with the Messiah, who also had NO WORDS to commemorate 911. He came out for a moment of silence and went away. (Well, actually, we’re glad he went away.) But we believe he showed a lack of passion regarding that atrocity. Can’t say we’re surprised.

Give us evidence that we’re mistaken, Google.

We’re not holding our breath.
